Anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse prompts reflection over changes in garment industry safety

Friday marked the second anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse, the deadliest garment factory accident in history that claimed 1,129 lives and injured over 2,000 more in Dhaka, Bangladesh. And though we’d hope the tragic disaster would spur significant improvements in garment industry safety regulations, Samantha Maher of Labour Behind the Label believes that the changes that have been made are enough. Read on to learn her thoughts on why the legislation put in place following the Rana Plaza collapse is incongruous to current issues and what lessons we should take away from the event.
