The world’s first independently powered street lighting system could be lighting up a neighborhood near you someday soon. Barcelona-based researcher Ramon Bargallo, has developed a 10-meter-high street lamp powered exclusively by wind and solar power. The system took four years to develop and is suitable for roadways, parks, neighborhoods and other public areas. The turbine can run between 10 and 200 revolutions per minute, while putting out up to 400 watts. An electronic control system oversees the flow of energy between the solar panel, the wind turbine and the lighting system.
