Most bicycles on the market today cater to Caucasian riders, which is why Taiwanese design studio Gearlab designed Espresso, a smaller and more compact bicycle created for the average East Asian rider. Designed to help convince Taipei locals to swap their car for two wheels, the Espresso Urban Bike is equipped with smaller 20-inch-rim wheels, making it easier to tout around in the cramped living spaces characteristic of high-density Asian cities. The majority of the bike is hand-assembled in Gearlab’s Taipei studio and comes with a front basket, chain guard, kickstand, fenders, and a built-in locking solution. Espresso was awarded with the 2014 Best Design award in the Golden Pin Design Awards.
