Following in the footsteps of New York’s Empire State Building and the London Eye, the city of Astana recently replaced the lighting systems of three major city landmarks with LED lighting from Philips Color Kinetics. By installing LEDs, the city has managed to slash the energy costs of illuminating the three iconic symbols of Astana–the Baiterek Monument, Tulpar Bridge, and Maral Bridge–by 85%. The LEDs are also hooked up to a wireless control system that can be used to create a light show through the customization of the lights’ brightness, pattern, and color.
