BendiNewsTest: Western Canada could lose up to 70 percent of its glaciers by 2100

If climate change continues on its current path, Western Canada will lose as much as 70 percent of its glaciers in the next 85 years. A new study recently published in the journal Nature Geoscience shows thousands of glaciers in British Columbia and Alberta could lose 60 to 80 percent of their collective volume relative to 2005, depending on how much carbon dioxide is emitted between now and the end of this century. According to the CBC, many glaciers in the Canadian Rockies will completely disappear, with losses of ice area and volume exceeding 90 percent. The loss of glaciers is expected to affect everything from the ski industry to farming, fisheries, hydroelectric facilities and natural resource development.
