BMW X5 eDrive40e plug-in hybrid SUV debuts with 19-mile EV range

Hybrid technology has advanced a lot in the last few years and now the technology is now ready to be applied to much larger vehicles, like SUVs. BMW has unveiled the X5 eDrive40e, which is the first plug-in hybrid from the BMW core brand, which doesn’t include the BMW i models. Based on the standard X5, the X5 eDrive40e can travel up to 19 miles in fully electric mode and is rated at 71 mpg.
