Going off the grid comes with many risks, but you can make the adventure a bit easier and safer with clever alternative-energy gadgets like the Torchia, a solar-powered emergency flashlight. Developed by Turkish design consultancy Designnobis, the Torchia is a lightweight multipurpose tool that folds up to the size of an A3-size paper. The 3.5-watt LED lamp comes with foldable stakes so that it can be conveniently stuck in soft ground while its photovoltaic panels generate energy. The device also comes with batteries to store excess energy and 2 USB outputs.
