Have You Seen the New $125 Million Plan to Protect Long Island from the Next Superstorm?

There’s been a great deal of talk about how we can fortify areas affected by Hurricane Sandy and make them more resilient, but now some of those ideas are a step closer to reality. For Long Island, which was hit hard by the 2012 superstorm, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Presidential Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force have alloted $125 million to enact Interboro Partners’ “Living with the Bay” resiliency plan. The project, which calls for the construction of dikes and other flood defenses and the restoration of the area’s sediment system, was recently selected as one of the winners of the HUD’s “Rebuild by Design” competition.
