Nendo creates timber-like furnishings out of Alcantara artificial suede

Don’t be fooled by the swirling wood grain-like textures—these beautiful gray-toned furnishings are actually made from Alcantara artificial suede. Prolific Japanese design studio Nendo created these timber-like materials by layering different colored textiles, rolling them into a “log” shape, and finally slicing the Alcantara layers into timber-like planks. The studio used the sturdy material, selected for its resistance to fraying, to construct a table and several chairs. Nendo showcased these furniture pieces at the ‘Alcantara, Technology of Dreams’ exhibition, which runs until May 31 at Milan’s Palazzo Reale.
