Heading out to eat? Want to find a place that sources local and sustainable foods? Yup. There’s an app for that. The Greenease app, available for Android and Apple devices, helps you find cafes and groceries that offer local, ethical and sustainable food options. The creator of the program, Vanessa Ferragut, determined that buying local is usually more important than buying organic. It’s difficult to find places that serve or sell local items using sites like Yelp. Hence, the app. According to Ferragut, “the free mobile app lets users search by name, by type of cuisine, or by proximity, and then displays the appropriate details and tips from Foursquare users, along with contact info and hours.” Currently, the app covers DC and New York City. Soon, an application for businesses will be available where they can log in and list the local and sustainable foods and products they offer.
