17-year-old Malala Yousafzai has been named the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, sharing the prize with Kailash Satyarthi for their work supporting the “struggle against the suppression of children and young people.” Yousafazai, a Pakistani teen who addressed the UN on her 16th birthday, is particularly well known for her advocacy of the rights of all children to an education, after she was shot in the head by the Taliban while on her way to school in 2012. Satyarthi, a 60-year-old Indian activist, works in the tradition of Mahatma Ghandi to lead peaceful protests that focus “on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain.”
