Electric busses are a great alternative to the diesel spewing mass transit of yesteryear, but they suffer from one major limitation: range. South Carolina based Proterra is changing all that after one of their electric busses broke the world record for most miles traveled in a day. During a round of standard pre-delivery testing, a Proterra bus went over 700 miles in just 24 hours. Even more stunning, the average fuel consumption was a scant 27 miles per gallon.
