Re Rag Rug Creates Gorgeous Handmade Rugs From Recycled Thrift Store Sweaters

Re Rag Rug is an experimental design and crafts project initiated in August 2012 by designers Katarina Brieditis and Katarina Evans in Stockholm, Sweden. Their goal is to develop one unique rag rug each month for a full year using different types of recycled materials and a variety of techniques ranging from sewing to plaiting, crocheting, knitting, macramé, rolling, cutting, applique, and embroidery. The designers’ goal is to work in a free and experimental manner to create innovative rugs – the fact that they’re made out of recycled materials is an added bonus.

Obama’s National Wildlife Conservation Strategy is Vague at Best

The Obama Administration’s new strategy to help protect our nation’s wildlife and plants from climate change is not only vague – it’s also optional. Released last Tuesday, the “National Fish, Wildlife and Plants Climate Adaptation Strategy” has seven key points for conservation, yet it stops short of mandating that officials in power abide by the suggestions. The conservation and protection techniques include ambiguous points such as “increase knowledge and information on impacts and responses of fish, wildlife and plants” and “increase awareness and motivate action to safeguard” these animals.

Cryo: Virginia Tech Creates Giant 170-Pound Jellyfish Robot!

When you imagine a high-stakes Navy spy mission, you might think of something like a shark with laser beam on its head, a swift and graceful manta ray, or even some sort of mechanical fish. Instead, engineers at Virginia Tech have created Cryo, a five-and-a-half-foot, eight-armed autonomous jellyfish robot that undulates with the help of a large silicone hat. It’s not as frighting as an animal outfitted with an intimidating array of teeth, but the battery-powered jellyfish uses energy-efficient undulations to move its 170 lb bulk.
